Then the faskionabl® tailors took them up, and the doom ofthe shapely knee-breeches was inevitable.But for all that, the latter wear made agallant fight of it. In the memory ofthe writer, some of the oldtime farmersof the British Isles, wore a sort of tightfitting knickerbocker and comfortablehose that were to all intents and pur-poses, the leg-garments of their grand-fathers. And in out of the way placeson the Continent of Europe, the knee-breeches survive in all their grace anddignity. And now let us consider somewhatwherein trousers sin against health andthe art instinct—especially the former. There are a whole host, of reasons,declare the leaders in the anti-trousersmovement, why the garments should bediscarded altogether, or be so modifiedin form and shape, that they shall be in-capable of working future harm to hu-manity.
