Deutsch: "In ein Oval komponiertes, repräsentatives Porträt des Prinzen im Halbprofil mit langer, dunkler Allongeperücke in einem Harnisch über weißem Hemd mit Spitze, am Hals ein blaues Jabot, um die Figur ein weiter, roter Umhang. Oberhalb Inschrift "PRINTZ PHILIPP WILHELM PFALTZGRAF". Historisch bedeutendes, seltenes, künstlerisch qualitätvolles Bildnis des jungen Prinzen, von dem nur ganz wenige Porträts existieren. Öl/Lwd.; Ger. Läsur in der Lwd.; 93,5 cm x 73 cm. Rahmen.
Philipp Wilhelm August von der Pfalz (1668 - 1693) war ein Prinz von der Pfalz aus der Neuburger Linie des Hauses Wittelsbach, Sohn des Kurfürsten Philipp Wilhelm von der Pfalz (1615 -1690) und schlug eine militärische Karriere ein. Seine älteste Schwester Eleonore Magdalene war seit 1676 mit dem römisch-deutschen Kaiser Leopold I. verheiratet, dessen Schwager er damit wurde; zwei weitere Schwestern heirateten die Könige von Portugal und Spanien. Mit nur 24 Jahren starb er zu Reichstadt an einem "bösartigen Fieber"." [1] |
