Summary

[edit]
Description
Magyar: Hím és tojó rodrigues-szigeti galambok vagy remetegalambok (Pezophaps solitaria) csontvázai az Angliában levő Királyi Sebészeti Akadémián.
English: Mounted skeletons of a male and female solitaires (Pezophaps solitaria). The specimens are from the Hunterian Museum at the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

The solitaire was a flightless bird indigenous to the island of Rodriguez in the Indian Ocean. It became extinct in the mid-18th century, mainly as a result of hunting by sailors and predation by the cats they introduced to the island.

Description of the 'solitary bird' were first published by Francois Leguat in 1708. These skeletons were brought back to England by the Transit of Venus Expedition in 1874.
