Peziza succosa Berk. Image location: Senate Way, Cupertino, California, USA Growing at several places in our backyard, on sandy soil. One cap 8 cm across, all others 4 cm or less. P. vesiculosa has smooth spores and grows on manure or manured soil. P. varia has moniliform paraphyses. P. repanda has smooth and narrower spores (9-10) and grows on woody substrates (which I may have here from decayed wood chips). Recognized by sight
