Description
Deutsch: Wetterradarstation des Deutschen Wetterdienstes DWD in Dreieich-Offenthal.
Infotafel am Turm des DWD: Dies ist eine Wetterradarstation des Deutschen Wetterdienstes. Sie ist Teil des Radarverbunds, der die gesamte Bundesrepublik Deutschland überdeckt. Auf der Spitze des Turmes befindet sich, vor Wettereinflüssen durch ein Radom geschützt, die Antenne. Die Antenne empfängt den Teil der ausgesendeten Impulse, der von Tröpfchen mit mehr als 0,1mm Durchmesser reflektiert wird. Aus der Laufzeit und Intensität des empfangenden Signals erhalten die Meteorologen des Deutschen Wetterdienstes Informationen über die Intensität und Zugrichtung der Niederschlagsfelder. Die einzelnen Bilder seiner Wetterradarstationen setzt der DWD zu einem Gesamtbild der Bundesrepublik zusammen. Die Informationen gehen in den Wettervorhersagedienst ein, dienen der Warnung vor Starkniederschlägen und Unwettern, unterstützen Beratungen der Land- und Forstwirtschaft sowie der Wasserwirtschaft.
