An example of computing the periodogram of a variable star's brightness variations to find its true period, then folding the data on that period.

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The top panel shows an artificial signal chosen to resemble a variable star, randomly sampled over three pulsation cycles. The middle panel shows the Lomb-Scargle periodogram of the signal, with a tallest peak near the correct period of 1 day. The bottom panel shows the original data "folded" on the period of the periodogram's tallest peak.
