Summary
[edit]DescriptionPerforming the snake goddess in Bengal.jpg |
English: Manasa Mangal, the 'Mangal Kavya' from medieval era of Bengali literary history is written by poet Hari Dutta though latter developed and popularized by Bijay Gupta widely among the people of undivided Bengal. Other poets like Ketakadas Khyamananda & Bipradas Piplai also contributed to the text and are definitely worth mentioning. Manasamangal depicts the glory of Indian Serpent goddess Manasa, through the story of Chand Saudagar, Behula & Lakkhindar. The verses of this Mangal Kavya were hugely popular among Bengalis and many has been given music to sing during the Manasa Puja. They are generally captured from the backstage, green room or front stage. In this modern age we come to see a touch of business to make this type of culture modernize.
