Summary
[edit]DescriptionPercolating Spring (morning, 6 June 2013) 5.jpg |
English: Percolating Spring is a moderately rare geyser in the Lower Group of Yellowstone's West Thumb Geyser Basin. It is located just northwest of Ledge Spring and just east of Oil Slick Pool. The shallow basin is irregularly ovoid in plan view, is about 8 x 6 meters in size, and has an off-center main vent. Water level varies with time. During some seasons, there is little water present. In other years, the basin is full and overflowing, with constant bubbling from multiple vents and occasional very low doming surges of water.
Reported Percolating Spring eruptions have been small, reaching 1 to 2 feet high. In recent decades, this feature had small geyser eruptions in 1987, early summer 2001, and mid-summer 2005. In 2000, researchers measured Percolating Spring's water temperature at 68 degrees Celsius, with a pH of about 5 (= acidic). |
