Description

Pentamerus oblongus Sowerby in Murchison, 1839 - fossil brachiopod in dolostone from the Silurian of Ohio, USA.

This large brachiopod is an internal mold - the original shell has dissolved away, leaving an impression of the shell's interior surface.

Classification: Animalia, Brachiopoda, Articulata (also known as Rhynchonelliformea), Pentamerida, Pentameridae

Stratigraphy: lower ~8 feet of the Cedarville Dolomite, upper Niagaran Series (= upper Wenlockian), upper Middle Silurian

Locality: Ludlow Quarry (owned by Barrett Paving Materials, Incorporated) (address: 3244 South Davis Road), southwest of the town of Ludlow Falls & just east of Brush Creek, northern Union Township, southwestern Miami County, southwestern Ohio, USA (NE1/4 section 7, T6N, R5E, West Milton 7.5' USGS topographic quadrangle) (39° 59' 17.46" North latitude, 84° 20’ 57.92" West longitude)
