Description

Fronteiro à Porta da Torre, no local onde antigamente se situavam os Paços do Concelho e da Cadeia Pública, ou seja, na Praça Velha, mais ou menos a meio da actual Avenida dos Duques de Bragança que acompanha a cerca amuralhada desde os Agostinhos até à Igreja da Esperança, ergue-se um dos mais belos e elegantes pelourinhos que subsistem em Portugal, constituindo um verdadeiro ex-libris desta Vila-Museu. Seu fuste quadrangular de pedra xistosa inteira com oito metros de altura, assenta sobre uma base de mármore ornada de quatro toscas figuras de rã esculpidas à moda românica. É rematado por uma elegante roca esferóide, também de mármore regional, aberta, golpeada e enfeitada de festões e folhas de acanto. De rara beleza, de indiscutível valor artístico e documental, este símbolo do poder local e da justiça oficial, é exemplar notável e único na sua traça.
