The upper cervical spine seemedat) first to be bifid, but this appearance was later found to be due toabsence of part of the occipital bone. The bones of the face are normalwith the exception of the nasal. 424 PEDIATRICS. Within the skull of this monster the cranial bones are all found to beimperfectly developed. The horizontal plate of the frontal is absent, orat most only arched. The basilar process of the occipital bone is presentand bears the foramen magnum, but beyond the ring of bone surround-ing the foramen magnum the occipital bone is absent. In its place sup-porting the cerebellum are strong bands of fascia in which are fouropenings, disposed symmetrically around the foramen magnum. Thebrain substance is small in quantity, soft
