Whole set is here: www.flickr.com/photos/uair01/sets/72157630760171880/ More observations are on my blog: uair01.blogspot.com/ In the last few days I've been looking at cracks in the pavement tiles. We have standardized 30*30 cm street tiles. When they break they seem to break in similar patterns. Notice especially when they break in 3 pieces. The pattern formed looks always quite similar. Could it be that the cracks from 120 degree angles, just like with soap bubbles? Also when they break in 4 pieces it looks relatively similar. Here they form approximately 90 degree angles. I've been looking for a physics explanation but couldn't find it on the Internet. |
