På rokokomanér trängde han ihop perspektivet så att den Wertmüllerska malmgården i förgrunden verkar att ligga alldeles nedanför klippan i stället för bortåt nuvarande Roslagsgatan. Den tyske konstnären Jacob Philipp Hackert gästade Stockholm 1764.

Till de många förmögna borgarna på 1700-talet hörde målaren Johan Pasch (1706-1769) och apotekaren Johan Ulrik Wertmüller (1712-1780), som anlade anläggningar på malmarna och som kunde växa till verkliga trädgårdsstäder. Wertmüllers trädgård, där bland annat medicinalväxter odlades, sträckte sig från Vanadishöjden till Bellevue. Johan Ulrik Wertmüller var far till den blivande konstnären Adolf Ulrik Wertmüller (1751-1811), som tillbringade somrarna här vid tiden för Jacob Philipp Hackerts bild.
