Partrishow church memorials (1)

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Partrishow church memorials (1) Partrishow church is well-endowed with work by the notable Brute family of stone masons from the nearby village of Llanbedr Ystrad Wy. Three generations of the family exhibited an extraordinary flair for carving and decorating, usually with colour, the memorials and gravestones of local people during a period from the 1720s to the 1840s. Thomas, Aaron and John Brute created these plaques in a remarkably distinctive form of "artisan rococo" unique to themselves. In clear roman and italic script, surrounded by flowers and classical motifs in low relief on stone, often gilded or painted, they commemorated the lives and deaths of their neighbours in an unsophisticated vernacular style that touches the heart even today.

There was a family named Brute living in Llanbedr in the mid C20 - and for all I know there may still be.
