Inscription in the round conference room of the Rockefeller Museum Israel Antiquities Authority, which appears in the dialogue by Plato. The Inscription is set by the Rockefeller Museum architect during the construction of the building כתובת בחדר הישיבות העגול של רשות העתיקות במוזיאון רוקפלר, ובה מופיע דיאלוג שכתב אפלטון. הכתובת נקבעה על ידי אדריכל מוזיאון רוקפלר בעת בניית המבנה. הפעם הראשונה בה הוזכרה בכתובים המילה "ארכאולוגיה" הייתה בדיאלוג פרי עטו של אפלטון המספר על שיחה שהתקיימה בין סוקרטס הפילוסוף היווני בן המאה ה-5 לפנה"ס והיפיאס. בשיחה עונה היפיאס לשאלת סוקרטס "מה מעניין אנשים?", תשובת היפיאס היתה: "עמים, גיבורים ובני אדם, יישובים וכיצד נוסדו הערים בימי קדם, ובקיצור, הם מוכנים לשמוע על ארכאולוגיה". (אפלטון,היפיאס רבה, 285 ד). |
