English: Rct. Brittney Paredes, Platoon 4030, November Company, 4th Recruit Training Battalion, crosses a trench during Basic Warrior Training on Aug. 12, 2014, on Parris Island, S.C. Recruits work in teams of two or four to maneuver over and under various obstacles such as concertina wire, walls and water-filled trenches while wearing combat equipment. Held during the 10th week on Parris Island, BWT introduces recruits to basic field skills all Marines must know. The basic combat training recruits receive while on Parris Island will be broadened after boot camp at advanced training in Camp Lejeune, N.C. Paredes, 19, from Prospect Heights, Ill., is scheduled to graduate Sept. 5, 2014. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training.
