Português: Potiicoara brasiliensis, com apenas 3 a 4 mm de comprimento, fotografado da superfície em uma poça d'água na Gruta Saracura/Parque Nacional da Serra da Bodoquena durante expedição liderada pela pesquisadora Lívia M. Cordeiro.
Este curioso crustáceo foi descoberto pelos cientistas em 1987, na Gruta do Lago Azul, em Bonito, Mato Grosso do Sul. Vive em água subterrânea parada ou de fluxo lento. Sem olhos ou pigmentos, pode ser visto nadando ou tateando as rochas submersas e a matéria orgânica em decomposição. Geralmente encontrado a partir de 5 m de profundidade - embora alguns já tenham sido registrados abaixo dos 100m -, o exemplar da foto estava em poça tão rasa que sequer se podia usar câmara subaquática. |
