Description
English: The Parley H. Green Building (most often short: “Green Building”) in downtown Willows, California, was constructed in 1911 on the southwest corner of North Butte and West Walnut Streets. For many years, it was known as Pieper’s, a general merchandise store owned by Amiel Pieper. The building is named after Parley H. Green (1855–1926), who was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and came to California in 1877. Green served as one of the directors of the First National Bank of Willows, and of the bank of Princeton, while also serving as a director and secretary of the Willows Warehouse Association beginning in 1883. Green’s grave, as well as that of his wife Mary Augusta, née Knight, from Michigan, can be found on the Willows Cemetery at East Wood Street.
