Excuse me while I go on a wild rant.... I just don't get it... Traffic these past two weeks have been obnoxiously bad. Seems like everyday there is some sort of odd thing causing a traffic jam. Today, however, was just ridiculous! My normally twenty minute commute took me over 1 hour and 45 minutes! Are you serious?! I would assume that with the gas prices at an all-time high, less people would be driving to work? No? I am actually seeing the opposite. More and more people are driving to work and less people are biking and/or taking public transit. I would almost be 100% certain if my workplace was closer, I would definitely bike to work. I am even considering getting one of those e-bikes. Back on topic... Gas prices... How could our governments allow gas prices to get so high? Especially Canada! We produce our own oil! What the heck? Also with all these newer and more fuel efficient cars, we should not be consuming anymore than in the 90s with their 5 mpg boats. Back to traffic. Now accidents... They happen! So why am I stuck going 20km/h? Because there is an accident on the highway, in the other direction, and everyone has to stop and have a look. Seriously people, why can’t you just keep driving? And after passing the accident the highway opens up like a willing ....nvm... I did do a study back in my first year of university where we grabbed 4 cars and drove up a four lane highway. We all maintained the speed limit across all four lanes of traffic. And we had spotters up ahead filming the chain reaction of braking 1 km behind us where traffic was going 40 km/h slower than us. There were weavers across all the lanes, jumping in front of other cars, invariably slamming the brakes, and causing about a 50 car braking chain reaction. The funniest part was the amount of people doing highly illegal maneuvers just to pass us to go over the speed limit. I wish I still had the footage... Anywho that is my rant... Any thoughts or opinions? (and I realize I have been complaining a bit too much lately but I seem to be getting irritated at every small stupid thing :( ) |
