| Description |
English: Let p denote the distance from the focus to the directrix of a parabola, (0,0) being in parabola's vertex y axis coinciding with parabola's axis. Then if p changes, a point on parabola with the same ordinate as ordinate of the focus, will lie on the line y=x/2. As p increases ordinate of the focus also increases, hence abscissa of the point mentioned above increases too. Therefore, when p increases, parabola "spreads" along x axis. Foci and directrices are in blue. Русский: Парабола при различных расстояниях от фокуса до директрисы (p). Пусть ось y совпадает с осью параболы, а начало координат — с её вершиной. Тогда при увеличении p точка параболы с ординатой, равной ординате фокуса будет лежать на прямой y=x/2 (по определению параболы). Ордината фокуса с ростом p будет увеличиваться, значит, будет увеличиваться и абсцисса указанной точки. Следовательно, при увеличении p парабола будет «расширяться» вдоль оси x. Фокусы и директрисы выделены синим. |
