Description

עברית: בית שערים הוא אתר ארכאולוגי השוכן בגליל התחתון. במקום התקיים יישוב יהודי חשוב בתקופת בית שני, המשנה והתלמוד. שיא פריחת היישוב הייתה בין המאות ה-2 וה-4 לספירה, עת שהתה בה הסנהדרין בראשותו של רבי יהודה הנשיא. בית שערים הקדומה ממוקמת על גבעת שייח' אבריק ליד קריית טבעון של ימינו. הגבעה נמצאת על אחת מהשלוחות הדרומיות של הגליל התחתון וניתן להשקיף ממנה על עמק יזרעאל מדרום-מזרח ועל הר הכרמל ממערב. התמונה צולמה מהרכס ממול למתחם מערות המנורה בדרך העפר היורדת מרחוב גולומב לעמק למטה. מימין מערות הקבורה במתחם מערות המנורה, במרכז הגבעה עליה נמצאו השרידים של העיר בית שערים ובמרכזו הפסל של אלכסנדר זייד. משמאל באזור המכוסה בצמחייה, נמצא המתחם המרכזי של מערות הקבורה של בית שערים כולל קברו של רבי יהודה הנשיא
