Summary
[edit]DescriptionPan troglodytes hand - 1.jpg |
Magyar: Fiatal közönséges csimpánz (Pan troglodytes) keze az Angliában levő Királyi Sebészeti Akadémián.
English: The hand and head of a young common chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes) in the Hunterian Museum at the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
John Hunter received the body of a chimpanzee from Adam Afzelius (1750-1837), a Swedish pupil of Carl Linnaeus. It was colllected in Sierra Leone in 1792. Hunter used the hands and head as a way of distinguishing between humans and apes. He noted that apes and monkeys used both their hands and feet for grasping and that the shape of the skull was more elongated than in humans. |
