DescriptionPalm house (Schönbrunn) 'Sisi' 20080212 afternoon mood.jpg |
Palm house at Schönbrunn, Vienna. This is a very late picture of that tree, which was named after 'Sisi', nickname of Empress Elisabeth of Austria exclusively used by her husband. The nick only became famous after a series of three "Sissi" movies with actress Romy Schneider, in late 1950s. Having grown too high and reaching the top part of the house, the plant has to be cut to prevent crashing the glass roof. The palm house will be closed for this from February 18, 2008, until 'demolition' work on the tree, which is expected to be difficult due to lack of space, will be finished. The plant will soon be replaced by an "only" 50 year old item, purportedly its progeny. |
