Description

Palaeocastor magnus Romer & McCormack, 1928 - fossil beaver skeleton from the Miocene of Nebraska, USA. (public display, Nebraska State Museum of Natural History, Lincoln, Nebraska, USA)

Orientation - the skull is at the lower left. The elongated black structures there are incisor teeth.

From museum signage:

A skeleton of a fossil beaver, Palaeocastor fossor magnus, exposed in the original matrix in its nest. The enlarged front feet and claws indicate that these beavers were well adapted for burrowing. Note the casts of the claw marks on the tall spiral to the left, and on the Daemonelix fragment at the base of the spiral.

Classification: Animalia, Chordata, Vertebrata, Mammalia, Rodentia, Castoridae

Locality: unspecified in museum signage, but implied to be from Sioux County, northwestern Nebraska, USA
