As origens da Casa dos Paes do Amaral, em Mangualde, remontava a finais do século XVI, tendo sido engrandecida a partir de 1644, quando Gaspar Paes do Amaral, Capitão-Mor de Mangualde, instituiu em vínculo a Capela que possuía nos termos da vila, localizada defronte do senado e consagrada a S. Bernardo. No primeiro quartel do séc. XVIII, Simão Paes do Amaral, mandou reedificar a antiga casa – obras que seriam continuadas por seu filho Miguel Pais do Amaral, Fidalgo da Casa Real, Cavaleiro da Ordem de Cristo, e Senhor Donatário da Vila de Abrunhosa, etc. Estas grandes obras que transformariam a pequena casa com Capela num dos mais importantes Palácios barrocos em Portugal, foram efectuadas ao longo de aproximadamente de um século, só sendo concluídas no tempo de Simão Paes do Amaral Quifel Barberino (+ 1807). Em princípios do século XIX, o Palácio de Mangualde era conhecido por Casa dos Paes do Amaral mas, pelo casamento de Manuel Paes do Amaral de Almeida e Vasconcelos Quifel Barbarino, 10.º Senhor da Casa de Mangualde, com sua sobrinha D. Maria Luiza de Sá Pereira de Menezes de Mello Sottomayor, 3.ª Condessa de Anadia, passou a ser conhecido por “Palácio Anadia”. Várias figuras históricas passaram por este Palácio, como o Marechal Massena, Principe d`Essling comandante do exército francês que, em 1810, invadiu Portugal pela terceira vez, ou o El-Rei D. Luiz I, que o visitou em 1882 quando da inauguração do Caminho de Ferro da Beira Alta e mais tarde El – Rei D. Carlos I . Caracterizado por uma marcante fachada ocidental, por uma italianizante fachada sul e por uma fachada nascente acastelada, pelas suas cantarias, pelos azulejos setecentistas, e obras de pintores como Pellegrini, Giagenti, ou Lanzarotto, o Palácio Anadia é, em Portugal, um dos mais importantes exemplos da arquitectura senhorial setecentista. O Palácio tem uma quinta adjacente com Parque e seus jardins, e uma Mata plantada no século XVIII.
