In Holland, shutters takethe place of sails and can be automati-cally opened or closed as the velocity ofthe wind requires. The pumping equipment consists oftwo Dow Vertical Triplex Power Pumps,8x 10 plungers, three stage and 45R. P. M. with 6.53 G. P. R. The capacityof the mill with wind power is limited to80 lbs. pressure, and with developmentof Lincoln Park a pressure of 180 pounds(corresponding to approximately a headof 400 feet) was needed, necessitatingadditional power. For this purpose, thePacific Gas and Electric Company in-stalled a 60 horse-power G. E. 2,200 volt2-phase 900 R. P. M. motor for eachpump, thereby giving sufficient power toaccommodate the limit in capacity of themachinery installed. With a rawhideshrouded pinion on the motor for directconnection, the motor by one screw onthe base may mesh with the gea
