Summary

Description

In the history of aviation, there haven't been very many jet powered sesquiplane types. Er, this one, actually! In fact it was also the only jet powered biplane ever to enter production. It was also the worlds slowest ever production jet aircraft, and the only jet agricultural aircraft ever produced! Only 175 of this unusual agricultural type were produced, despite an expected production run of 3,000. This was because it turned out to be inefficient to operate. It was named 'Belphegar' after the 'noise demon', due to the engine noise and general looks! The type first flew in 1973 and production ceased in 1981. This example is preserved in faded Aeroflot markings. c/n 1S013-01. On display outside at the Russian Air Force Museum. Monino, Russia.
