English: LMR train from Cambridge via Bletchley entering Oxford WR with an ER locomotive. View eastward from the Down platform at Oxford (ex-GWR) station: Didcot, Reading, London etc. to the right; Banbury, Birmingham, Worcester etc. to the left, also by LMS (ex-LNW) to Bletchley and Cambridge. Oxford station was unique in regularly entertaining locomotives of all the Big Four, if few - such as this one - ex-LNER. The 09.34 from Cambridge is passing the typical GWR Oxford North Box, headed by D16/3 class 4-4-0 No. 62585, which was built 4/1910 as GE Holden D56 class No. 1815, becoming LNER No. 8815 (2585 in 1946), having been rebuilt to D16/3 in 2/35 and withdrawn as No. 62585 in 3/58. |
