There are some timber wolves, butthey are not dangerous. The one animalthat is really dangerous is the javalin,or Mexican wild boar. They run inlarge bands and will kill both man andhorse. If one of them is wounded, thewhole band will turn upon the hunter,and woe to him if he has not providedfor escape or safety. The javalin is verynumerous in some sections, but if notmolested it is not likely to attack. The noblest game bird of the world,the wild turkey, is plentiful throughoutthe Sierra Madres wherever its food isto be found, which is nearly everywhere,and grows to immense size. Grouseand pheasants inhabit the foothills inconsiderable abundance. The smallvalley quail, the fool quail, and thelarge mountain quail are common. Isaw a few wild pigeons, and was toldthat at times there were a good manyof them.

THE OUTING MAGAZINE It was my good fortune, while at Ma-zatlan, to accompany Mr. J. Cadman, anAmerican sportsman who was tempo-rarily residing there, upon a half dayshunting trip for ducks and snipe. Thiswas the 14th of January—mid-winter— We were absent from the Americanconsulate about three hours, and ourbag totaled the following ducks: twobluebells, two spoonbills, two mallards,one green-winged teal, and one blue-winged teal. In addition to these we with the delightful weather characteristic secured some jacksnipe, curlew, andof the region at this season—clear and Virginia rail. I mention this incidentfine and not so warm as to make walk- merely to show the sporting possibilitiesing uncomfortable.
