The nightbefore, it is customary for the Mexicans toransack the village and steal buggies andtools and anything they can carry off, andthey make a big pile of all this plunder justoutside the fence in front of the old Mission.Then they take a worn-out suit of clothesand stuff it full of weeds, and stick it up ontop of the pile, and that is Judas. Nextthing they get an old dress and stuff thatfull of weeds and set it up side of Judas torepresent his wife. In the morning whenwe wake up we find all the vehicles andloose things that were around our yardsstacked up over by the Mission, with thosetwo scarecrow figures on top.
