Description
English: Soldiers using a captured German gun, France, during World War I. Three soldiers standing in a field or battleground fire a gun. According to the photograph's original caption it is a captured German gun. One man stands to the side watching. Lined up next to the gun are shells. The scene is shrouded in mist or smoke.

Scenes such as this were commonly used as propaganda and were intended to boost morale amongst the troops and provide reassurance to those at home. The official photographers would have to follow the action and it is likely that this image was taken just after, or possibly during, a battle.
