e south. When beef cattle are kept instead ofdairy cows, the plan works out just aswell. The cows are stood in the stableat night and left until after milking timein the morning, while beef cattle arestood in the stable just long enough toeat their silage and grain. All rough-age would be fed from the racks in theshelter shed. The horse end of this building propo-sition is just as interesting as the cattledivision. Both silos and all the feedalleys are connected by means of anoverhead track and a feed carrier whichruns everywhere, so that any kind offodder or grain from the silo or feedrooms may be taken directly to anystall or any feed rack in the sheltershed. The plan offers a great variety ofwhat may be called machinery feeding. One important feature is the watertrough in the center of the open sheltershed, accessible to either horses or cat-tle without going outside. Because thereis more or less dampness around thewater trough, drainage must be pro-vided to carry away the surplus.
