Summary
[edit]DescriptionOur Lady of Mercy High School, Queensgate, Cincinnati, OH (28224110198).jpg | This grand building, one of only a few buildings remaining in the old West End west of Interstate 75, is the former Sisters of Mercy Academy. Constructed in 1898, the Romanesque Revival-style complex was designed by Samuel Hannaford, a prominent local architect, and also housed the convent of the Sisters of Mercy. The building remained in use as a Catholic school into the mid-20th Century, but urban renewal and demolition of the surrounding neighborhood led to its original function becoming redundant. Now located in a predominately industrial area, the building is now home to the Cincinnati Job Corps Center, a job-training facility for low-income individuals. The building is overall in good condition, though quite a bit of the stonework on the building shows signs of extreme weathering, which is of concern for the building's preservation. |
