Summary
[edit]DescriptionOughtibridge Parish Church, Church St., Oughtibridge - geograph.org.uk - 750029.jpg |
English: Parish church of the Ascension, Church Street, Oughtibridge, South Yorkshire, seen from the north. Built in 1842 and consecrated in 1843 as a Chapel of Ease to Wadsley parish church. In 1939 it was made a separate parish and in 1974 was dedicated to the Ascension of Christ. Originally the turrets on either side each had a pinnacle, but many years ago (1920s?) one was blown off by a gale and the other was removed for safety. Visible on the right of the picture is a part of the original Oughtibridge Junior and Infants School. |
