De RAI aan de Ferdinand Bolstraat werd gebouwd in 1922 als tijdelijk tentoonstellingsgebouw voor 5 jaar en geopend met een grote auto-motor- en rijwieltentoonstelling op 31 maart 1922. De opening werd verricht door Prins Hendrik. In 1929 werd het gebouwd gerenoveerd en heeft uiteindelijk tot 1975 dienst gedaan. Tussen 1958 en 1960 werd de nieuwe RAI gebouwd aan het Europaplein. Na de opening werd de oude RAI omgedoopt tot sporthal Zuid (maar in de volksmond bleef de aanduiding Oude RAI) en gebruikt voor sportwedstrijden, schoolvakantie activiteiten etc. RAI staat voor Rijwiel en Automobiel Industrie
