Summary
[edit]DescriptionOrpington station - geograph.org.uk - 558499.jpg |
English: Orpington station Orpington has trains to the Sussex coast as well as the Kent coast. Here a '6-L' class diesel electric unit calls with a service for Hastings. These units, which were introduced in the late 1950s to replace steam on the Hastings line, had to be built to a very narrow loading gauge because of the restricted width in tunnels between Tonbridge and Hastings. Nowadays standard electric stock can be used because the lines through the tunnels have been singled. |
