[edit]DescriptionOratório Público da Cruz do Pascoal Salvador Bahia 2018-0073.jpg |
English: "The Oratory of Cruz do Pascoal is strategically located at the intersection of two winding streets that form a small square bordered by 19th-century buildings, some with tile-covered façades. [...] The oratory was built in 1743 by Pascoal Marques de Almeida, a native of Lisbon, as proof of his faith in Our Lady of Pilar. It is composed of a solid octagonal Tuscan column topped by a niche based on the design of the bell towers used in early 18th-century churches in Bahia. An 18th-century image of Our Lady of Pilar is displayed in the niche. The oratory is almost completely faced with blue and white tiles and surrounded by an iron railing, installed in 1874 for better protection."
