English: “Oranmanu”
This is a special food been prepared by the young men of the compound or community in ijaw or Ibani clan. This food called “oranmanu” is usually made up of red palm oil, grounded crayfish, dried pepper, biscuits, onions and salt. It is not a regular food that can just be made any time as it is more like a ceremonial food. This food is usually prepared once every year during the eve of dec (24th Dec.) when they are bringing down the “ngelenge” xylophone that is been played by the youths and children of the compound. This food also can be prepared by the youths during a special occasion of a chieftaincy coronation or the making of a new king. This is more common amongst the Ijaw and Ibani people of ancient Opobo Kingdom and Bonny Kingdom. |
