Summary
[edit]DescriptionOpo Terser - Sitticus fasciger Jumping Spider (by).jpg |
First of all, I apologize for the blown orange hairs, I had to salvage this image from a pretty underexposed photo. Found this little one (~3-4mm) on an outside window sill. I'm not at all familiar with this genus, and at the time of writing this, I don't know the species or even the gender. A nice looking spider, the colorations and patterns of scales are great. The palps have some interesting hairs as well. Taken at ~7:1 with the 28mm reversed to the bellows at f/5.6. EDIT (11/6/08): I contacted Wayne Maddison about this spider, as I couldn't find an entry for it on bugguide.net. He identified it as a female Sitticus fasciger. For an interesting paper on this species, see <205:NOTLHO>2.0.CO;2-1 here. Pretty exciting stuff, this is a whole new genus for me, and an interesting spider as well. Looks as though they first came to the US in the late 1950's. |
