Description
English: Opening of the New Nitrate Film Preservation Centre, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. June 21, 2011. The new building safely stores deteriorating and highly combustible cellulose nitrate, namely 600,000 nitrate photograph negatives and 5,575 reels of nitrate film dating back to 1912 (including Back to God’s Country (1919), the oldest existing Canadian feature film, and Churchill’s Island, the first Canadian film to win an Oscar (in 1941)).
Français : Ouverture de la nouvelle installation pour la préservation des films sur support de nitrate, Ottawa (Ontario, Canada). 21 juin 2011. Le nouveau bâtiment conserve en toute sécurité le pellicule nitrate hautement inflammable, y compris 600 000 négatifs photo nitrate et 5575 bobines de pellicule en nitrate datant de 1912 (incluant notamment «Back to God’s Country» (1919), le plus ancien film canadien existant, et «Churchill’s Island», le premier film canadien à remporter un Oscar (en 1941)).
