[edit]DescriptionOp TRENTON-Medal Parade MOD 45163473.jpg |
English: Pictured are medals awarded for service to the United Nations Mission in South Sudan.
The UK task force is predominantly made up of Engineers and Medics who are working hard to enable the delivery of the UN mandate in the world's newest country. Almost 100 members of the United Kingdom engineering contingent serving with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan have received medals recognizing their commitment and service to the people of the conflict-afflicted country. The engineers have been serving in Malakal, in the north of the country, since July and will end their tour of duty in two months’ time. During their rotation, the UK troops have carried out significant infrastructural work vital to the Mission, including camp construction, building drainage systems and perimeter security structures as well as helicopter landing sites. In Bentiu, the contingent is building a new permanent hospital, providing medical care to United Nations personnel, and clinical training to local medical staff at the Bentiu State Hospital. They are also working with colleagues from the Indian engineering battalion on remedial work at Rubkona airfield.
