| Description |
'Gideon Monument' (1950). Ontworpen door Paul Grégoire, ir. A.J. van der Steur en G.H. Kleinhout. De bijbelse figuur Gideon staat symbool voor 'het verzet van een kleine uitgelezen schare tegen een overmacht'. Achter het monument (een fontein) staat een gemetselde gedenkmuur, waarop oorspronkelijk drie bronzen plaquettes waren aangebracht. Op 29 juni 2005 is een nieuwe plaquette bij het monument onthuld ter nagedachtenis aan de 9 Zutphense militairen, die in het voormalig Nederlands-Indie zijn gesneuveld en rusten op de erevelden in Java. De namen van de militairen staan niet vermeld op de plaquette. In oktober 2008 zijn de drie bronzen platen gestolen en tot op heden niet teruggevonden. In april 2009 zijn de drie herdenkingsplaten vervangen door drie natuurstenen plaquettes. Bron: Nationaal Comité 4 en 5 mei. |
