Further information
[edit]According to Peter David Joralemon:
- "A fascinating group of Olmec statues and effigy vessels represent an aged female with wrinkled face, drooping breasts, and skeletal ribs and vertebrae. . . Although several interpretations . . . are possible, it is most likely that the figures represent the old goddess, mother of human beings and gods alike." (Joralemon, Peter David (1996) "Tecomate in the Shape of a Kneeling Personage with Wrinkled Face" in E. P. Benson and B. de la Fuente (eds.), Olmec Art of Ancient Mexico. Washington, D.C.: National Gallery of Art: 51-60. ISBN 0-89468-250-4.)
