Summary
[edit]DescriptionOld quarry building - Winspit - geograph.org.uk - 1499688.jpg |
English: Old quarry building - Winspit. The quarries were dug by men from Worth Matravers whose families had quarrying rights. This was done by hand until the end of WWII. The stone used to be lowered down the cliffs into boats and taken away. During the Second World War the stone was used for defences and the building of airfields. |
