OLD BOSTON BOYS 177 sketches, together with songs and stories,were always a source of pleasure, and,what with boxing and social enjoymentsof all kinds, the winter months sped rap-idly in those far-off days. On June 2, 1866, we met the Flyawaysof East Boston, and for four hours ranaround the bases, making one hundredand twenty-one runs to fourteen. We wentto Portland on July 4 and played the Eons,whom we beat 33 to 23, upon a park amile or so outside the city limits. Whileplaying we could see that there was a good-sized fire raging in the city, and when wereturned thither found ourselves in themidst of the big Portland fire. We had intended returning honie thatevening, but stayed and worked nearly allnight in assisting to save the jewelry stockof Messrs. Lowell & Senter, who veryhandsomely acknowledged our efforts inthe newspapers. On July 14 we again tackled Harvard 178 OLD BOSTON BOYS for the championship, and once more wonit, this time by the score of 37 to 27.^ In this game it
