Ohio National Guard troops preparing dinner |
|||||||||||||||||
Description |
A postcard photograph showing Ohio National Guard troops preparing dinner in Goodale Park. They were part of the contingent brought to Columbus in response to the 1910 Streetcar strike. Goodale Park housed Troop B and the 8th Infantry regiment. Caption reads: "Getting supper on Sunday July 31, 1910 in Goodale Park just opposite of 661 Dennison Avenue." The postcard was postmarked August 2, 1910, and mailed to Ruth E. Smith, Lakeside, Ohio. The handwritten message, presumably written by Ruth's father, Frank Smith, reads: "Ruth, This is the way the soldiers get their meals like here. I think I'll go and see if I can get a supper with them too. I have not got a letter from you to the one I wrote. Papa." |
