English: Maj. Gen. Deborah Ashenhurst, adjutant general, Ohio National Guard, visits with Airmen from the 200th Red Horse Squadron from Camp Perry, Ohio, as they filter water to be distributed to communities in the Greater Toledo Area Aug. 3, 2014. Ohio Gov. John Kasich declared a state of emergency Aug. 2, 2014, after a harmful algae bloom in Lake Erie contaminated the area’s public water system. The water is transferred from the fire trucks into large bladders before being passed through several smaller bladders used for filtering followed by chlorine tests to ensure sanitary water is available for those in need. Members of the Ohio Army and Air National Guard have been activated to stand up water distribution sites for those communities impacted until the state of emergency is lifted.
