Natural color image of Occator Crater, taken by the Dawn spacecraft from an altitude of ~1500 km. Occator Crater hosts a number of bright spots created by cryovolcanic activity. These spots represent zones where water escaped from the interior of the asteroid and evaporated, leaving salt deposits. Image Credit: NASA/ JPL-Caltech / UCLA / MPS / DLR / IDA / Justin Cowart |
