Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Oak pollards near Winson. Several pollards can be found near this track, interestingly known as Potlicker's Lane. Pollarding is the cutting back of a tree to encourage long, straight branches that are useful for fencing hurdles and other purposes; it is similar to coppicing but the new growth appears out of the reach of cattle, deer and other browsing animals. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pollarding
