Description
English: Warsaw, residential building. Built late 19th c. to host Russian cavalry units; internal staircase is allegedly wide enough for the horses to climb the upper floor, compare here. Until 1915 it served as officers' barracks of Гродненский гусарский полк лейб-гвардии (Grodno Hussars Life-Guard Regiment). In 1919-1939 it served as barracks of 1. Pułk Szwoleżerów Józefa Piłsudskiego (1. Chevau-léger Regiment of Jozef Pilsudski). Detailed discussion on various cavalry barracks in the area here
Niewielu nawet warszawian zna tę dzielnicę miasta. Bo, jeżeli który z nich, oglądając Łazienki, znalazł się na ulicy Agrykola Dolnej, to z pewnością nie dalej, niz po za mostem Sobieskiego, na placyku przed bramą, gdzie powozy uczestniczące w defiladzie warszawskiego "corsa", zawracają, ażeby przejechawszy Łazienki, jeszcze raz w powrocie w Aleje uraczyć się pysznem powietrzem parku i malowniczym widokiem jego krętych uliczek. Za ulicą Agrykola, za uroczym warszawskim "laskiem bulońskim", tyłem do ulicy Czerniakowskiej, w samym jej prawie końcu, nieopodal rogatki tejże nazwy, wznosi się gmach duży, i długi, piętrowy, zdaleka już zwracający na siebie uwagę dachem czerwonym. Są to koszary oficerskie grodzieńskiego pułku huzarów lejbgwardji, konsystującego w Warszawie. Gmach koszar oficerskich ma trzy podjazdy. Nas interesuje jednak wyłącznie podjazd pierwszy. Po kilku stopniach kamiennych wchodzimy z przedsionka do bardzo długiego korytarza, na który wychodzi po obu stronach mnóstwo drzwi. - Kurjer Warszawski 18 (30 new style).04.1898, p. 2
